Spring is right around the corner, and the Virginia Beach History Museums have announced several upcoming events to mark on your calendar.
Film Festival – Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library
Admission is free. A group discussion will follow the screening of each film.
“More Than a Month”
Feb 12 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Filmmaker Shukree Hassan Tilghman explores whether Black History Month should be ended.
“American Experience: Freedom Summer”
Feb. 19 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
More than 700 student volunteers partner with local African Americans to oppose white supremacy in 1964.
“The Road to Brown”
Feb. 26 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Witness the story of black lawyer Charles Hamilton Houston during the Civil Rights Movement.
Homeschool Day – Colonial Education Center at the Lynnhaven House
Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Enjoy hands-on lessons with arts and crafts for children five and up. Families must register in advance for a two-hour time slot here.
Girl Scout Day – Colonial Education Center at the Lynnhaven House
Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Brownies and Junior Scouts will take part in activities geared towards achieving badge requirements. Advanced registration must be completed online here.
Women and Liberty – Colonial Education Center at the Lynnhaven House
March 25 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Try hands-on activities mastered by colonial women, including candle dipping and cross stitch.
Gathering of the Guilds and Easter Egg Hunt – Francis Land House
April 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will welcome local artisans, and the Native Plant Society for a spring sale. Multiple Easter egg hunts will take place throughout the afternoon.
