The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office honored more than 30 employees during a promotions and retirement ceremony Saturday at the Law Enforcement Training Academy.
Promotions to positions of corporal, sergeant, lieutenant and captain were awarded to 14 honorees. Former lieutenants Christina Mapes and Alvie Culanding were both promoted to captain, one of the highest ranking positions at the Sheriff’s Office.
Retirements were announced for 10 deputies, five auxiliary deputies, and two civilians that have recently departed from the Sheriff’s Office after more than 300 years of combined service.
“Thank you for your years of loyal service,” Sheriff Stolle said during the event. “We are indebted to you for sharing your talents, your time and your lives with us. You will be missed, but your contributions to the Sheriff’s Office and to the citizens of Virginia Beach will not be forgotten.”
