The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 26-year-old man who police believe shot a private security guard early Thanksgiving morning.
Sheriff’s deputies are searching for Coleston Ryan Lewis, of Newport News, in connection to the death of 42-year-old Richard Irvin, which occurred around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of the County Grill & Steakhouse, York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Lt. Dennis Ivey said.
The road around the business, located in the 1200 block of George Washington Memorial Highway, was still closed from the Newport News City line to Coventry Boulevard around 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Ivey said.
Police are still searching for the suspect and more evidence at the scene, he said.
Police said Irvin was escorting Lewis away from a tent party in the parking lot of the restaurant when Lewis shot him.
Lewis fled the scene, Ivey said, and Irvin died from his injuries.
Lewis has not been found, but is charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
