VIRGINIA BEACH – A 56-year-old woman died Wednesday after she was struck at the Oceanfront by a beach umbrella that was blown by a gust of wind, police said.
The police did not identify the woman but said she is from Chester, Va. She was on the beach when the wind blew an anchored umbrella across the sand, and it struck her, according to a brief summary of the incident.
Emergency Communications were called to help at about 5:07 p.m. on Wednesday for a woman in cardiac arrest on the beach at 33rd Street, according to police. Police and medical personnel arrived and found the woman suffering from what the police summary described as “a life threatening injury.”
She was taken to a hospital but died from her injury, police said.
