This spring, a group of high school students hope to take to the skies through a new scholarship program from the Williamsburg Jamestown Airport.

The airport has announced Williamsburg Aviation Scholarship Program to help aspiring pilots earn their licenses. The nonprofit program supports STEM – science, technology, engineering and math – while giving youth a chance to pursue a career in aviation.

The first class is planned for the spring at Williamsburg Flight Center, with 10 students selected by local high schools for their academic and extra-curricular accomplishments and enthusiasm for flying.

For WASP, the airport wants to raise $50,000 in the next several months.

Checks or money orders can be dropped off at the airport or mailed to Williamsburg Aviation Scholarship Program, 102 Marclay Road, Williamsburg, VA, 23185.
