The outreach efforts of one area school will provide meals for 100 families this Thanksgiving.

For the third year in a row, Williamsburg Christian Academy has organized Giving From the Heart of the Academy. The project, in partnership with 10 local churches and many grocery stores, gives a complete meal to residents in need.

The schoolwide program provides 100 gift cards for families to purchase turkeys, along with an assortment of non-perishable food items to fill out a Thanksgiving meal, which might include canned vegetables, instant mashed potatoes, cornbread and gravy.

WCA students helped by collecting food, packaging meals and creating holiday cards.

“When we work together as a school family, we are able to bless 100 families in our community who are less fortunate with a Thanksgiving meal,” said Pam McGregor, WCA spokesperson, in a news release.

At an assembly Tuesday, pastors from the participating churches, which select the recipient families, offered a blessing and took the meals to be distributed.
