With a diverse program that combines Chopin, Beethoven and a Brazilian-inspired piece, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra will continue its season in the Williamsburg area.
Its concert Thursday will feature pianist Sara Buechner. The music starts at 8 p.m. at Crosswalk Community Church.
Buechner, who has been acclaimed by the New York Times and the Washington Post, will perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1. It includes noble themes and delicate piano work for Buechner.
“Sara is an amazing pianist,” said JoAnn Falletta, VSO’s music director, in a news release. “I’ve worked with her dozens of times; she is a spectacular talent. When I asked her what she wanted to play here in Virginia, she suggested the Chopin. It makes for a very mixed program, with three works totally different in character.”
The orchestra will also play Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, sometimes echoing Haydn and Mozart, and Darius Milhaud’s “Le Boeuf sur le toit (The Ox on the Roof),” an energetic fantasy.
Falletta will present a “Behind the Notes” presentation on the evening’s program one hour before the performance.
Tickets start at $10 for students, and range from $25 to $63 for general admission. To purchase tickets, call Symphony Patron Services at 892-6366 or visit the VSO website.
