For crafting a luxury kitchen for her client, local designer Kathryn Salyer has received national recognition.
Over the summer, Salyer was named one of the 16 regional winners of the Thermador 2012-2013 Kitchen Design Challenge. In September she represented the Mid-Atlantic when she traveled to Southern California, where the appliance company revealed the national winners at a gala event.
There she was announced as one of five national winners and the first runner-up in the Traditional/Transitional category.
Salyer created the winning design for a local couple with two young children juggling work, parenting and international travel.
“They wanted their home to be a haven, a place to welcome, enjoy and reconnect. … Establishing a fresh approach to our traditional architectural heritage was essential for this young family. The foundational design direction was to create an all-inclusive cooking, eating and living space to maximize their coveted family time,” Salyer said in a release.
Her “21st Century Traditional” included specific areas for food preparation, cooking and cleanup, along with custom cabinets and a mix of glass tile, marble and chrome.
“All the elements combined beautifully to keep our design commitment consistent with the traditional vibe of the home and this historic part of the country!” Salyer said.
