NEWPORT NEWS — Christopher Newport University fifth year senior Jahn Hines received another honor from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference on Monday. Hines, from Norfolk, Va., was named the men’s basketball Player of the Week.
The weekly honor is the fourth this season for Hines, and the 16th in his illustrious career. He has now matched cross country standout Aimee Gibbs for the most all-time weekly conference honors in Christopher Newport athletic history.
Hines led the Captains to two road victories this week by averaging 26 points per game. The three-time All-American erupted in the second halves of both victories at Cairn and Pfeiffer, scoring 21 of his 30 points last Monday at Cairn after halftime, and then pouring in 16 of his 22 points Sunday at Pfeiffer after the break. Hines has moved into third place on CNU’s all-time scoring list, and is 99 points behind Steve Artis for second place with five games to go in the regular season.
The Captains, ranked 15th in the nation last week, are now 16-4 and have won seven of their last eight games. CNU returns to the Freeman Center this Saturday, February 1, to host the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
