NEWPORT NEWS — Christopher Newport senior forward Hannah Orloff continued her outstanding season this week after helping lead the nationally-ranked Captains to wins over Virginia Wesleyan University and the University of Mary Washington. After leading the team in scoring and rebounding, Orloff was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Orloff becomes just the second CNU player since joining the league in 2013-14 to garner as many as four weekly honors in a single season, joining Anaya Simmons in 2022-23. Her recognition also marks the most for a single player since Katie Garrish collected five weekly certificates in 2018-19.
In two games this week, Orloff averaged 12.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while adding 4.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game. Against Virginia Wesleyan, the senior from Howell, New Jersey recorded her third career double-double by pouring in 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds. She also added four rejections and a steal in 17 minutes of action. Then, in a matchup against Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference foe Mary Washington, the starting forward added seven points, seven rebounds, four more blocks and added three steals.
Her defensive efforts have launched her into the nation’s elite with 45 blocked shots and 27 steals this season. Of the top 30 shot blockers in Division III, Orloff is one of only seven players to also record 25 or more steals this season, including All-Americans Mary Schleusner (Washington and Lee) and Natalie Bruns (NYU).
Her 45 swats this season rank 10th in Division III and she has climbed to 25th among active Division III players despite missing almost her entire junior season to injury. With 132 career blocked shots, she has climbed to fourth on the all-time list at CNU while ranking fifth with 1.7 blocks per game.
CNU has now earned five of the last six weekly honors for women’s basketball in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference and six total selections in 2024-25.
Christopher Newport, ranked No. 6 in the WBCA Coaches’ Poll and No. 10 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 last week, improved to 19-1 on the season with the 2-0 week. The Captains have won 12 games in a row and closed out a four-game homestand with an average margin of victory of 39.75 points per game. Orloff and the rest of the CNU Captains will next travel to Guilford College on Wednesday, January 29 at 5:00 p.m.
