WASHINGTON — The William & Mary lacrosse team earned a thrilling 12-11 overtime victory at George Washington on Saturday afternoon.
After Kate Draddy tied the game at 11-11 with 6:08 remaining in regulation, Ellie Shea scored the game-winner 3:45 into the overtime period.
The closely contested matchup featured 10 ties and neither team led by more than two at any point.
Led by a trio of standouts who posted multi-goal efforts, nine different players scored for W&M.
With the victory, W&M improves to 2-2 while GW falls to 1-4.
Tribe Standouts
Shea (2g, 1a) and Paige Gilbert (2g, 1a) led the Tribe with three points apiece, while Finley Hoffman also found the back of the cage twice.
Draddy and Ainsley Huizenga were outstanding on the draw circle and totaled seven and four draws, respectively. Draddy’s total marked a career high, as she has totaled 13 draw controls during the last two contests after tallying six earlier this week versus Richmond.
Jaylin Locke led the defensive effort with a career-high three caused turnovers to go with three ground balls. Courtney Vasquenza also came up big defensively with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Inside the Numbers
W&M outshot GW, 30-24, and owned a 13-12 edge in draws.
The Tribe also committed five fewer turnovers (9-14), while GW held a narrow advantage in ground balls (20-19).
The Opposition
Desiree Kleberg (3g, 1a) and Phoebe Mullarkey (2g, 2a) led GW with four points apiece, while Emma Nowakowski also recorded a hat trick.
Stella Ray totaled six draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

W&M improves to 5-2 all-time versus GW … All seven of the contests have been decided by a margin of no more than four goals … The contest was W&M’s second overtime game this season, as it was edged by George Mason in the season opener … The Tribe improves to 5-1 in games decided by just one goal during the last two seasons … At least seven different W&M players have scored in every game this season.

W&M will return to action when it plays at VCU on Wednesday at 3 p.m. It will mark the Tribe’s fourth road game in its opening five contests.
