RICHMOND — William & Mary graduate student Lauren Curran was named the CAA Field Hockey Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced on Monday.
Curran finished the regular season on a tear, scoring four goals in the Tribe’s two wins last week over Queens and Richmond. Over the Tribe’s last four matches, the graduate forward has seven goals to push her team-leading total to 11.
Last week, Curran was named the CAA Player of the Week after scoring two goals in the Tribe’s 3-2 victory over Monmouth. She has received the weekly league award on three occasions over her career. Curran joined teammate Pyper Friedman in winning the player of the week accolade on two occasions this season. Friedman received the honor on Sept. 4 after scoring two goals in a win at No. 12 Wake Forest and on Sept. 18 after tallying two goals in a win at Towson.
The Media, Pa., native recorded the first hat trick for a W&M player since 2018 in the Tribe’s 7-0 win over Queens on Friday. She scored twice in the opening period to jump start the Tribe offense, including what proved to be the game-winner in the second minute. On Sunday, Curran capped the Tribe’s 3-0 win at Richmond, scoring on the counter with a back-handed shot into the right side boards in the 59th minute.
Curran ranks third in the CAA in goals (11) and game-winning goals (3) along with coming in fifth in points (25). In league games, she was third in goals and points. Curran continued to move up in the Tribe record books, rankings seventh in game-winning goals (8), 11th in goals (31) and 15th in points (66).
Winners in four of their last five matches, Curran and the Tribe will be the No. 3 seed in the 2023 CAA Championship, Nov. 3-5, at Delaware. W&M faces No. 2 seed Drexel on Friday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. in the semifinals. Monmouth and Northeastern meet in the other semifinal with the winners squaring off on Sunday, Nov. 5, for the CAA title at 1 p.m.
