WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary men’s basketball freshman Julian Lewis was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week on Monday. Lewis averaged 12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in leading the Tribe to wins over Hofstra and Northeastern to start league play.
Lewis opened the week with a then career-high 11 points against Hofstra. His lay-up off a steal with 10.9 seconds remaining lifted the Tribe to a 63-62 win over the Pride as W&M scored the game’s final four points over the last 15.5 seconds. He added a career-high eight rebounds to go with three assists and a blocked shot vs. Hofstra.
In the 71-70 win over Northeastern on New Year’s Eve, Lewis bested his career-high, scoring 14 points. He also pulled down eight rebounds for the second-straight game, while contributing five assists and a career-high four steals against the Huskies.
On the year, Lewis ranks among the top CAA rookies in a number of statistical categories. He is sixth among first-year players in the league in scoring (6.2) while ranking second in assists (2.1) and rebounds (4.0).
The Tribe returns to CAA play when it makes the league’s southern road trip. W&M heads to UNCW on Sunday, Jan. 9, for a 6 p.m. tip-off, before traveling to Charleston on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m.
