Baseball roundup: Lafayette stops Bruton on 10-run rule

Three Lafayette players drove in multiple runs today as the Rams cruised past Bruton 13-3 on the road.

The game was ended after five innings because of the Virginia High School League’s 10-run rule.

Luc Lipcius opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a two-run double. Three batters later, John Keane smacked an RBI single that put the Rams up 3-0.

Later that inning, Mitch Barrick and Braydon Venus drove in runs in back-to-back at-bats to put Lafayette on top 5-0.

Bruton scored a run in the bottom of the second as Kevin Zamudio scored on a passed ball by Lafayette.

After adding a run in the top of the third inning, Lafayette blew the game open with four runs in the fourth.

Keane started the inning with an RBI single, which was followed by an RBI double from Chase Bauer. Later in the inning, the Rams added runs on a bases-loaded hit batter and a fielding error.

Three more runs in the top of the fifth allowed the Rams to reach the 10-run threshold and end the game.

On Wednesday, Lafayette (12-4) will host Grafton and Bruton (3-13) will host Poquoson.

Jamestown uses early offense to down Grafton

Jamestown scored eight runs in the first three innings en route to a 9-4 road win today against Grafton.

Pacing the Eagles was Garrick Colorado, who went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Six other Jamestown players drove in runs during the victory.

For Grafton, DJ Dobbins went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, while Justin Bowers went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

On Tuesday, Jamestown (15-1) will host Smithfield, while Grafton (5-12) will host Poquoson.

Walsingham season ends in VISAA tournament

Walsingham Academy’s season came to a close today with a 13-6 loss to Alliance Christian in the quarterfinals of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament.

The Walsingham pitchers struggled to contain the Alliance offense, as each Trojans pitcher allowed multiple runs in the loss.

After falling behind 5-0 early, Walsingham Academy scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a Tredell Blow RBI single.

The Trojans logged two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but watched as Alliance Christian posted six runs in the sixth to blow the game open.

Walsingham’s season ends with the Trojans sporting a 15-9 record.

Tabb’s Goodrich stifles Warhill offense

Tabb pitcher Gray Goodrich needed just 67 pitches today to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 win against Warhill.

Goodrich threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and walking one batter.

The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the first inning before adding runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.

Tabb (9-6) will travel to play Smithfield on Wednesday. Warhill (4-14) will visit Bruton on Thursday.
