After going up 5-0 through the first three innings, Jamestown tacked on four runs in the fourth inning before putting the game well out of reach with eight runs in the top of the fifth inning.

With Bruton held scoreless through five innings, the game was ended because of the Virginia High School League’s 10-run rule.

Jamestown (5-1) will resume its season April 12 on the road against Smithfield, while Bruton (2-5) will visit Poquoson on April 12.

York Roughs Up Tabb in Victory

York batters teed off against Tabb starting pitcher Robbie Barrett during an 8-3 win at home Thursday afternoon.

Barrett, who lasted 4 1/3 innings, struggled to slow down the Falcons, allowing nine hits and eight earned runs before being replaced by D.J. Williams.

For York, Ryan Jordan led the way with 3 RBIs. Jaime Lewis and Trey Kurtyka each drove in a pair of runs for the Falcons.

After posting one run in the second inning, York got back-to-back scoring plays from Lewis and Kurtyka in the third inning. Lewis hit a two-run double, which set up Kurtyka for an RBI double on the next at bat.

Tabb cut into York’s lead in the top of the fifth inning as Barrett reached on a fielder’s choice that brought home a pair of runs, including one coming off a fielding error. Later that inning, Nick Hunter hit an RBI single that brought the Tigers within one run of the Falcons.

Not to be outdone, York responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull away. Kurtyka hit an RBI single, which was followed by a Gabe Simmons RBI double on the next at bat. Jordan kept the ball rolling, hitting a two-run single to left field for the game’s final runs.

York (4-1) will visit Grafton on April 12, while Tabb (3-3) will hit the road against Lafayette that same day.

Rough Third Inning Sinks Lafayette

Lafayette watched an early three-run lead evaporate in the third inning as Poquoson posted four runs that proved enough for a 4-3 win at home against the Rams.

The Rams opened the game on a high note, scoring three runs in the first inning with RBIs coming from Andre Lipcius and Mitch Barrick.

However, Lipcius found himself in some trouble in the third inning against the Islanders. After allowing two walks, Lipcius hit a batter that loaded the bases. A pair of fielding errors by the Rams resulted in the four runs coming across.

The Rams were unable to score for the rest of the game, leaving 10 men on base through the seven innings.

Lafayette (5-1) will try to rebound April 12 at home against Tabb.
