The Lafayette girls cross-country team earned fourth place and Grafton took sixth place during Friday’s Virginia High School League Group 4A Cross-Country Championships at Great Meadows in The Plains.
In the girls race, the Rams finished with 113 team points, which was four points behind third-place E.C. Glass and 27-points behind first-place Heritage. Grafton ended the meet with 128 team points.
Lafayette was led by Delaney Savedge, who finished seventh overall in a time of 19:31. Grafton’s Kire Freedman rounded out the top 10 spots in a time of 19:45.
Brooke Crookston of Lafayette finished 13th in a time of 19:56, while teammate Serenity Chavez took 18th in 20:10. Lafayette’s final two scorers were Summer Chambers (20:19) in 23rd and Jessica Link (22:53) in 88th place.
For Grafton, Maya Caden took 28th place in a time of 20:30, while Meredith Beaver finished 40th with a time of 20:49. Tacome Mendelsohn was 43rd in 20:53, and Sung Park took 50th in 21:06.
Jametown’s Kathleen Yates finished in 78th place with a time of 22:28, and Taylor Stutt took 100th with a time of 24:10 with both girls competing independently.
Grafton’s boys cross-country team finished sixth place overall with 145 points, which was well behind first-place Loudoun Valley with 47 points. Lafayette was ninth with 214 points, and Jamestown 11th with 257 points.
Lafayette’s Konrad Steck placed second individually with a time of 16:00, while Grafton’s Price Owens took third in a time of 16:16. Owens’ teammate Dylan Lorio-MacNamara was 19th in 17:04, and Brandon Tackling of Grafton placed 28th in 17:16.
Grafton’s final scorers were Dylan Comer in 59th place with a finish of 17:57 and Tristan Ruark in 71st place in 18:15.
For Lafayette, Cade Moreno took 33rd overall in 17:26. John Barton (17:50) finished 56th, Marcos Piggott (18:19) took 77th and Chris Collins was 97th in a time of 19:03.
Jamestown was led by Jyrec McCray in 50th place with a time of 17:43. Clarke Agnew took 61st in 17:59, while Daniel Napolitano was 67th in 18:10. The final Jamestown scorers were Calvin Hart (18:12) in 69th and Rylan Flint in 74th place with a time of 18:16.

Walsingham Girls, Boys Place Top Three in States
The Walsingham Academy cross-country teams each earned top-three finishes during Friday’s Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Cross-Country Championships at Fork Union.
Walsingham’s girls took second place overall with 85 points, which was just behind winners Covenant with 79 points.
The Trojans were led by Camryn Mann in ninth place with a time of 20:43, while Delaney Riggs took 11th in 20:43.
Frankie Riggs was 13th in 20:54, and Grace Vidlak took 22nd in 21:31. Kiely Curran was the final Walsingham scorer in 37th place with a time of 22:26.
The Walsingham boys took third overall with 145 points, which was well behind first-place Peninsula Catholic with 47 points. Hampton Roads Academy finished 26th with 647 points.
Mathias Cannon led Walsingham with a second-place finish in a time of 17:01, while teammate Jack Grimson took seventh in 17:40. Chris Correll was 47th in 19:14, Jake Lobash took 48th in 19:16 and Patrick Murphy finished 55th in 19:29.
For Hampton Roads Academy, Liam Carr placed 136th in a time of 21:28, while Avery Cronin took 143rd in 21:34. Ford Silberhorn took 167th in 22:06, Thomas Blanchard took 174th in 22:11 and Jack Howard rounded out the Navigators in 212th place with a time of 22:59.
