Cross-Country Roundup: Historic Triangle Runners Thrive at Big Cat Invitational

Six Historic Triangle schools traveled to New Quarter Park for Bruton’s Big Cat Invitational on Saturday.

Grafton’s boys cross-country team had the best finish of any Historic Triangle school in the boys varsity A race, which is reserved for the fastest runners in the meet. The Clippers finished with 102 points.

Warhill finished in fifth place with 166 points, while Lafayette was eighth at 195 points. Tabb took 10th with 232 points.

Lafayette’s Konrad Steck had the best individual result for Historic Triangle boys, taking fourth overall in a time of 15:29. Grafton’s Price Owens finished sixth in a time of 15:42, and Warhill’s Daniel Cretney took 11th with 15:52.

Tabb’s Preston Klekar was 13th with a time of 15:42, while Grafton teammates Dylan Lorio-MacNamara (15:57) and Miles Owens (16:02) finished 14th and 16th, respectively.

In the girls varsity A race, Grafton finished third with 111 points, while Lafayette took fourth with 135 points. Tabb finished sixth with 150 points, and Warhill was 16th with 399 points.

Tabb’s Lindsey Blanks won the girls race with a time of 17:47. Lafayette’s Delaney Savedge finished in fifth place with a time of 18:24, while Grafton’s Maya Caden finished seventh in a time of 18:49.

Lafayette’s Brooke Crookston rounded out the top 10 with a time of 19:01. Grafton’s Kira Freedman finished 11th with a time of 19:03. Tabb’s Lauren Blanks finished 12th in a time of 19:05.

Warhill’s Hannah Hrncir took 13th with a time of 19:06, and Lafayette’s Summer Chambers finished 16th with a time of 19:09.

In the boys varsity B race, Grafton took second place with 115 points, while York took seventh place with 176 points. Bruton finished 10th with 275 points, while Tabb placed 12th with 281 points. Warhill was the final Historic Triangle team with a 15th-place finish with 446 points.

Bruton’s Curt Ivanoff finished in third place with a time of 17:03. Grafton’s Tristan Ruark finished ninth with a time of 17:31, and York’s Noah Fields rounded out the top 10 in a time of 17:35.

The Panthers took first place as a team in the girls varsity B race with 70 points. Grafton finished third with 105 points, while Lafayette took 14th with 391 points.

Clara Wincheski took second overall for Bruton with a time of 19:42, while her teammate Kaitlyn Ardrey was third with a time of 19:48. York’s Lori Prieto finished sixth with a time of 20:42.

Bruton’s Victoria Senn finished in eighth place with a time of 20:56, while her teammate Rachel Brotherton finished ninth in a time of 21:09.

Walsingham Boys Take First at Norfolk Academy Meet

The Walsingham Academy boys cross-country team took first place during the third Norfolk Academy meet Saturday. The Trojans also took second place in the girls race.

On the boys side, Walsingham finished with a team score of 74 points, which was 21 points better than runners-up Norfolk Academy.

Mathias Cannon finished the boys race in second place overall in a time of 16:07, while his teammate Jack Grimson finished third in 16:29.

Chris Correll finished in 19th place in 17:57. Jake Lobash (18:03) and Patrick Murphy (18:39) finished 25th and 33rd, respectively.

In the girls race, Walsingham finished one point behind first-place Norfolk Acadmey, which won the race with 34 points.

Camryn Mann finished second overall in the race with a time of 19:48, and teammate Delaney Riggs took third in 19:49.

Frankie Riggs crossed the finish line in 20:53, which placed her ninth. Grace Vidlak ran 21 minutes flat and finished 12th, while Kiely Curran rounded out the Walsingham scorers with a 16th-place finish in a time of 21:14.
