Cross-Country Roundup: Lafayette, Tabb and Grafton Thrive During Wednesday Meets

The Lafayette boys and Tabb girls cross-country teams came out on top during Wednesday’s quad meet at Eastern State Hospital.

Lafayette’s boys went 3-0 during the meet, defeating Bruton 16-47, Poquoson 21-38 and Tabb 25-32.

The Rams were led by Konrad Steck, who finished first overall with a time of 16:22. Cade Moreno finished second for Lafayette with a time of 17:02.

Tabb’s boys team finished 2-1, defeating Bruton 15-50 and Poquoson 23-38. The Tigers were led by Preston Klekar, who posted a team-best time of 16:51.

Finally, Bruton went 0-3 during the meet, losing to Poquoson 18-38. Bruton was paced by Curt Ivanoff with a time of 18:34.

In the girls race, Tabb went a perfect 3-0 thanks to strong performances by Lindsey Blanks, who won the race in a time of 18:43, and Lauren Blanks, who had a time of 19:47.

The Tigers defeated Bruton 18-44, Lafayette 26-31 and Poquoson 15-49.

Lafayette finished second with a 2-1 record. The Rams took down Bruton 19-42 and Poquoson 15-50 behind good runs from Delaney Savedge (19:20) and Brooke Crookston (19:45).

The Bruton girls went 1-2 on the day, defeating Poquoson in a narrow 25-30 decision. Clara Wincheski paced the Panthers with a time of 19:50.

 

Grafton Sees Success During Tri-Meet 

Grafton’s cross-country team came out on top during a tri-meet with Warhill and New Kent at Grafton High School on Wednesday.

The Grafton boys defeated Warhill 19-39 and New Kent 19-38, while Warhill defeated New Kent 25-30.

Grafton’s Dylan Lorio-MacNamara led the way with a first-place finish in a time of 16:00.2, which was followed by New Kent’s Andrew Carlin in a time of 16:04.

Price Owens and Miles Owens finished in times of 16:05 and 16:39, respectively, for Grafton. For Warhill, Daniel Cretney put together the best time with a 16:41 finish.

In the girls race, Grafton defeated Warhill by default since the Lions could not field five runners. Against New Kent, Grafton won comfortably 15-85.

Warhill’s Hannah Hrncir put together an impressive race in a time of 19:23, which was good for first place overall.

Grafton put together a strong finish after Hrncir, with Maya Caden (19:40), Kira Freedman (20:09), Sami Wanderer (20:16) and Sung Park (20:02) claiming the next four spots.
