Grafton seniors Hannah Olson and Emily Beyer, who led the Clippers’ softball team to an appearance in the state semifinals this spring, were both recognized on the 4A all-state first team announced Monday.
The duo led Grafton in nearly every offensive category and had fielding percentages over .940 as the team’s starting shortstop (Olson) and center fielder (Beyer).
Olson, who will play Division I ball for Elon University next year, was the Clippers’ leader in batting (.461), runs (30), hits (40) and home runs (4) while Beyer led the team in RBI (29) in addition to batting a solid .449 with 35 hits, 30 runs and three homers.
Both were also first-team selections on the Virginia High School Coaches Association’s all-state team, according to Grafton coach Vanessa Young. Olson will represent Grafton in next month’s VHSCA East vs. West all-star game.
