Baseball Roundup: Jamestown Edges York 4-3 for Second Win in a Row

Walsingham holds on to beat rival HRA for first Tidewater Conference win of the season, Tabb ends losing skid, and more. 

In a game that produced five different lead changes before the fifth inning, Jamestown edged York 4-3 for its second win a row Thursday.

After Jamestown went up 1-0 in the first inning, York pushed two runs across in the top of the fourth to take its first lead of the game, 2-1. The Eagles responded with a three-run inning in the bottom of the frame, though, to take the lead for good, 4-2. York rallied for one run in the top of the seventh to cut its deficit in half before Jamestown closer Garrick Colorado worked his way out of the inning to preserve the win.

Sean Hughes pitched six solid innings for the Eagles, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five. Austin Carter went 2-3 with a run scored and one RBI.

Jamestown, winners of three out of their last four, improved to 3-3 on the season after starting the season 0-2. It was York’s second loss in a row as the Falcons dropped to 3-3.

Grafton Extends Winning Streak with Win over Warhill 

An eight-run fourth inning proved to be the difference as Grafton ran away from Warhill to win 9-1 at home Thursday.

It was a 1-1 game heading into the fourth before the Clippers (4-1, 4-1 BRD) erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the frame to break things open. Adam Panholzer, one of six different Grafton players to drive in a run, went 2-2 at the plate with a run scored and one RBI.

Evan Sperling was tough to solve on the mound yielding only one hit to Warhill’s Luke Bruce. He added eight strikeouts over seven innings to earn the complete game victory as Grafton won its third game in a row.

Tabb Edges Bruton to End Two-Game Losing Streak

Nick Hunter went 2-4 with three runs scored as Tabb built a 3-1 lead after three innings and held on to beat Bruton 4-2 on the road to end a two-game losing skid Thursday.

Ben Phifer allowed two runs on two hits over seven innings and struck out six without allowing a walk to earn the win.

Walsingham Hangs on to Beat Rival HRA

Walsingham jumped out to an early lead before having to hold off a late-inning rally from Hampton Roads Academy to win its first Tidewater Conference game of the season, 6-5 over the host Navigators.

Walsingham scored six runs in the first inning and held a 6-0 lead all the way until the bottom of the fifth inning with HRA rallied for five runs to make it a one-run game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Trojans pitcher Jack Keating induced a clutch double-play ball with one out and the bases loaded to get out of the inning unscathed.
