Tribe Men and Women Gymnastics Open Season in Style

The William and Mary women’s gymnastics team posted its best season-opening score of the last decade with an impressive 190.725-183.050 victory against Cortland at Kaplan Arena on Saturday afternoon. Click here for details.

On Sunday afternoon, The Tribe men opened their 2014 season with a good showing at the State Open at Kaplan Arena on, as four Tribe gymnasts combined to claim six individual event titles. Senior Landon Funiciello, a two-time NCAA All-American, broke his own school record on rings (15.7) and won two events (rings, parallel bars), while sophomore Neal Courter also claimed two event titles (vault, high bar). Senior Daniel Potemski (floor) and junior Jason Wang (pommel horse) both earned the top score in one event apiece. Click here for details.

Tennis: Men Wrap up Play at Wolfpack Invitational; Women Lose to No. 10 Duke 

The William and Mary men’s tennis team wrapped up play at the Wolfpack Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Green and Gold tallied seven doubles victories on the second day of the event led by the trio of wins from the duo of senior Ben Guthrie and Damon Niquet. Click here for details and results.

The No. 40-ranked William and Mary women’s tennis team opened the 2014 dual-match campaign with a 6-1 setback at No. 10 Duke on Sunday afternoon. Click here for a complete report.

Pool-Record Relay Leads Tribe Women to Season-Opening Victory; Men Cruise 

The William and Mary women’s swimming team began the spring season Saturday by taking down a spirited Davidson squad, 152-110. W&M had a plethora of top performances on the day, including a pool record and the best-ever dual-meet 50 free. Click here for details and results.

The Tribe men churned through more than 55,000 yards of practice laps in the last week, but showed no signs of fatigue in sprinting past Davidson 169-93 on Saturday.  Click here for details and results.

Men’s Basketball Wins, Women Fall in CAA Openers

Led by Marcus Thornton’s 18 points, William and Mary’s men’s basketball team saw four players score in double figures as the Tribe beat Drexel, 85-73, in both team’s Colonial Athletic Association opener on Wednesday, January 8. They Tribe returns to action on Wednesday when they visit Delaware.

On Thursday, the Tribe women dropped their CAA opener, 57-39, against Delaware despite 11 points from freshman point guard Marlena Tremba and a nine-point, four-steal and two-rebound performance from junior Jazmen Boone. The Tribe trimmed their deficit to 10 with five minutes to play, but the Blue Hens closed the game with a 12-4 to seal it. The Tribe lost 101-65 against the College of Charleston on Sunday.
