York edges Lafayette at home, Warhill falls in overtime to New Kent and more.
York 57 Lafayette 53
Tyler Christian (12 points) scored the go-ahead bucket in the final minute of regulation and freshman Lamont Simmons sank two free throws with roughly 20 seconds left to seal it as York held on for a 57-53 home win over Lafayette on Friday. Jaylen Riggsbee led the Falcons (3-8, 2-7 BRD) with 16 points and Mark Rivera paced the Rams with 14.
New Kent 97 Warhill 95 (Overtime)
In a game that had 68 foul calls, New Kent edged host Warhill 97-95 in overtime. Warhill’s Ra’Shawn Cook hit a game-tying 3-pointer with four seconds left in regulation before Blake Kelley hit a big 3 in the extra period to put New Kent ahead for good. Devonte Dedmon improved his scoring average to 28.7 points per game as he led the Lions with a game-high 33 before fouling out in the fourth period.
Jamestown 60 Poquoson 48
Trey Neville scored 22 of his game-high 24 points in the first half and Logan Evans added 12 points as Jamestown improved to 3-6 (4-7 BRD) with a 60-48 home win over Poquoson on Friday night.
Grafton 63 Tabb 41
Joey Miller scored a game-high 20 points and Evan Sperling finished with 15 as Grafton jumped out to a 36-14 lead at halftime and cruised to a 63-41 victory over cross-town rival Tabb on Friday night. The Clippers improved to 8-1 in Bay Rivers District play (10-2 overall) while Tabb dropped to 5-3 (7-4 BRD) with the loss.
Bruton 64 Smithfield 46
Bruton opened the game with a 21-9 run and held on for a 64-46 road win at Smithfield behind Lonnie Swinton’s 22 points and 16 from Marcus Carter. Starters Mike Sangalang added 12 points and Kapri Doucet finished with 11 for the Panthers, who improved their Bay Rivers District-best record to 9-0.
