Rotary Invitational Private vs. Public School Basketball Jamboree Coming Up

The Rotary Club of the Historic Triangle will hosts its second annual charity basketball tournament the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving.

The Rotary Invitational Basketball Jamboree will feature three private school varsity boys and girls teams – Williamsburg Christian Academy, Trinity Episcopal and Norfolk Collegiate – as well as three public school teams – Jamestown, Lafayette and Warhill.

The tournament, which has been sanctioned by the Virginia High School League, will take on a unique format as each of the private school teams will play three games against the three public school teams.  The boys tournament will be held Friday and the girls on Saturday at Williamsburg Christian Academy. Competition begins at 9 a.m. both days.

Proceeds from the event will benefit a number of charities, including an international fundraiser – the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation – that raises money to help eradicate polio worldwide, as well as Dream Catchers, a local therapeutic riding center. The Rotary Club also awards an annual scholarship to a student of Thomas Nelson Community College.

Rotary Club president Mark Tisone said last year’s inaugural event raised nearly $3,000 in charity donations.

Admission is $5 per person and open to the public both days.
