Former Williamsburg Christian Academy boys basketball standout Deron Powers will play the second college basketball game of his career in front of friends and family Friday night when his Hampton University Pirates travel to Williamsburg to take on the College of William and Mary for the Tribe’s season opener.
Powers, who led the Eagles to their first state championship in school history this past spring with averages of 21 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals per contest, made quite an impression in his freshman debut during Hampton’s exhibition win (72-57) Monday against Christopher Newport University. Powers got the start at point guard and led the Pirates in scoring with 14 points to go along with five assists in 35 minutes of action.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night at William and Mary’s Kaplan Arena.
