Both Jamestown and Grafton’s volleyball teams swept their opening-round opponents in the Region I tournament Monday night.
That means the two powerhouses will meet for the third time this season on Thursday in the region semifinals to decide a Group AA state-tournament berth. The two sides have exchanged runner-up finishes at the state tournament the past two year s- Grafton in 2010 (to Loudoun County) and Jamestown in 2011 (to Cave Spring).
“It’s going to be another great game,” said Jamestown coach Tom Stephenson, whose Eagles repeated as the Bay Rivers District champs this season. “They’ve proven they could beat us, and we beat them the first time.
“It’s a fitting way to decide a state tournament berth since the Bay Rivers is the toughest district in the region.”
