YORKTOWN — Pirates are preparing to takeover Riverwalk Landing on April 23 and 24 for its annual Pirates Invade Yorktown weekend.

There will be points of interest for buccaneers of all ages as pirate reenactors and living historians set up exhibits all over Historic Yorktown showing what life was like for pirates during the 17th and 18th centuries, including live blacksmith and cannon firing demonstrations

At York Hall, 301 Main St., there will be pirate puppet show performances. Additionally, a History Fair will be held at the Freight Shed (331 Water St.) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a Summer Camp Expo held in a tent behind the Freight Shed.

Guests are invited to sing along with sea shanties and take in a live dance performance entitled, “Pirates & Mermaids of Yorktown.”

There will be a treasure hunt for kids that allows them the opportunity to collect various treasures such as coins, jewels and eye patches and more from a number of local businesses. To participate, please go to www.visityorktown.org to download a treasure map.

In addition to the family fun, the pirates will invade Yorktown Market Days from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
