With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Captain Kenneth L. Hoff Jr., USNR (Ret.), on 16 August 2026. He was 82 years old.
“Ken” was born in Chicago, IL, on 13 January 1944, where he attended St. Ignatius College Prep and quarterbacked his football team to an undefeated season. Ignatius shaped his life, to respect every individual and pursue excellence, resulting in generosity beyond reproach.
He spent four years at the Naval Academy with a cast of characters and many stories that kept you on the edge of your seat.
After graduation with the Class of 1966, he spent time on the submarines STURGEON and FINBACK, traveling the world in an attempt to keep it safe.
To round out his career, Ken managed Professional Reality with Wendall White, developed many neighborhoods around the Tidewater area and finally, owned Breezy Point Apartments with his beloved partner, Don Williams.
His adventures with his family and friends were the prized possessions in his life, traveling the world with his wife, Doreen, and showing his kids and grandkids how to look beyond their surroundings and expand their horizons.
Ken and Doreen’s generosity was unmatched. Their home was a refuge for anyone who needed a safe place to land. They also gave away endless amounts of money and time to make sure everyone was taken care of.
Ken was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Doreen Healy Hoff, and their daughter, Taff Flynn. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Hoff (Carl Cecere) and Mindy Hoff; son-in-law, Andy Flynn; and grandchildren, Reilly and Anna Flynn.
