Robert “Bob” Janko, born on May 7, 1950, in New Jersey, passed away peacefully in Chesapeake, Virginia, on August 16, 2026, at the age of 76.
A man of many talents and a heart full of love, Bob lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, and service. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the U.S. National Guard while also building a long and successful career with Atlantic Container Line, where he remained until his retirement. With more time to enjoy the things he loved, Bob devoted himself to gardening, taking great pride in growing vegetables and tending to his yard. He was also an avid sports fan who rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Yankees and the NY Giants.
Bob’s drive and determination were evident from an early age. He attended Marist High School in Bayonne, a private Catholic school where he was an accomplished athlete, participating in gymnastics, track and field, and football. His dedication continued beyond the playing field and into the classroom. Bob went on to attend Jersey City State College, where he earned a Master’s degree in Special Education, reflecting his commitment to education and helping at-risk teens reach their fullest potential as a teacher in the inner city of Newark, NJ.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen Diane Janko; his parents, William and EdnaMae Janko; and his brothers, William B. Janko and John J. Janko.
He is survived by his cherished family: his devoted daughter and “Pumpkin” Kyra Arnold; his sons, Sean Janko (wife Lisa), and Douglas Janko; and his treasured grandchildren, Kayleigh, Alekzander, Logan, William, Orianna, Payton, and Eva.
In remembering Bob, we celebrate a life defined by his deep love and devotion to his family, his remarkable strength, and a fighting spirit that remained with him throughout his life. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, carried forward through the countless memories, laughter, and moments they shared. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he gave and the memories he created will be cherished forever.
