Sr. Bernard Marie Magill (Karen Magill), 79, of Newport News, Virginia, died Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Mary Immaculate Hospital after bravely fighting a serious illness.
Sr. Bernard Marie was born April 16, 1947 in Washington DC to Bernard and Marguerite Magill. She was raised in Camp Springs, MD and moved to Reading, Pennsylvania after joining the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters.
Sr. Bernard was a devoted member of the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters for 61 years. She loved teaching and taught at LaReine High School for several years. She was a committed caregiver to those suffering, a selfless employee for those transitioning into palliative care, and a loving sister and aunt to her family. Sr. Bernard will always be remembered for her unwavering faith, dedicated service to those in need, and calming demeanor to all she encountered.
Sr. Bernard was wholly committed to serving God through ministering to others and positively impacted every person she encountered.
Sr. Bernard is survived by her sisters: Bonnie Fleenor (Jim Fleenor), Maureen Moore (James Moore), Sr. Colleen Marie Magill; brothers: Bernard Magill, Jr. (Lorna Magill), Patrick Magill and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Marguerite Magill, her brother Michael Magill, and her sister Kathleen Mullins.
