Flora Perez, born on October 20, 1937, in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 88, surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and a family forever shaped by her example.
Flora worked as a seamstress, demonstrating remarkable skill and dedication. Yet, if asked what her greatest accomplishment was, she would have answered without hesitation: being a mother. That love only grew as she became a grandmother, great- grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
To know Flora was to have been loved, and loved well. She had a remarkable way of making every one of her children and grandchildren feel deeply known, completely
accepted, and unconditionally loved. She celebrated every accomplishment, encouraged every dream, and embraced each member of her family for exactly who they were. Her love was found in her presence, in the meals she prepared, the stories she shared, and the joy with which she joined in our family’s playful shenanigans. She found her greatest happiness simply by being together, creating memories that will be
treasured for generations to come. Above all, Flora’s life reflected her deep faith in God. Through her actions, her compassion, and her unwavering devotion to her family, she showed us what the love of God looks like. She was preceded in death by her mother, Etervina Diaz, and her beloved great- grandchild, Julius Mitchell Rivera. She is lovingly survived by her five children: Ramon Burgos, Elizabeth Burgos, Mildred Bonilla, Jose A. Cruz, and Aida Cruz; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Though our hearts grieve her passing, we are profoundly grateful for the life she lived and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated as the heart and cherished matriarch of our family.
A funeral service celebrating Flora’s life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Homes – Maestas Chapel, 1801 Baltic Avenue, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor her life and share their memories.
