Martha Ann Hamilton, affectionately known to all as “Bootsie,” passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Born on September 17, 1955, in Texas, she graced this world with her presence for 70 years.
Bootsie dedicated her life to the love and care of her family and faith, a devotion that was apparent to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her career as a sales associate was marked by hard work and integrity, but her heart was truly devoted to her interests outside of work. She found joy in shopping and had a deep appreciation for music, especially the songs of Stevie Nicks. Bootsie also possessed a remarkable green thumb, nurturing her garden with love and skill. Her faithful companion, her beloved dog Darlin, was always by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Hamilton, Sr.; her son, Denver Hamilton; her mother, Margaret Finnerty; her poppy, Elton Finnerty; and her sister, Teresa Coy.
Bootsie leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her son, Dennis Gregory Hamilton, Jr. of Moyock; her son, Anthony “Baby” Hamilton of Chesapeake; her daughter, Amanda Tiller of Camden; her daughter, Holly Robinson and her husband John of Moyock; her daughter, Ashley Miller and her husband Mitch of Moyock. She also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at her home on Sunday, August 2, at 1:00 pm, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and share cherished moments.
Though Bootsie is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
