Wendy Sue Shirai, 53, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia.
Born on July 17, 1972, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Wendy was the beloved daughter of Lawrence and Marliss Carr. She lived life on her own terms with determination, resilience, and an unwavering spirit. Independent and strong-willed, Wendy faced life’s challenges with courage while remaining devoted to those she loved most.
Wendy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved reading, relaxing with her favorite television shows, and expressing her creativity through designing handmade jewelry, which she proudly crafted and sold. Her artistic talents reflected her unique personality and brought happiness to many who appreciated her work.
Above all else, Wendy was a devoted mother. Her greatest pride and purpose in life were her two beloved children, Jadon and Hanalei Shirai. She worked tirelessly to provide for them, support them, and ensure they knew they were deeply loved. The love she shared with her children will remain her greatest legacy.
Wendy was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Carr; and her brothers, Lawrence Andrew Carr II, Michael Peter Carr, and Joel Patrick Carr.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Jadon and Hanalei Shirai; her mother, Marliss Carr; her sister, Laurie Bucholz and her husband, Dennis; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
Please leave the family condolences here.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family is grateful for the love, prayers, and support shown during this difficult time and invites those who knew Wendy to remember her through acts of kindness, creativity, and love for family.
