Ivan Malcolm Smith, born on September 19, 1957, in Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 12, 2026, at the age of 68.
He spent his entire life in Newport News until moving to West Point Three Rivers Facility after a stroke in 2021.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Smith and Edythe Goldberg Smith; his brothers, Phillip and twin brother Eric Smith; his sister, Robin Smith; and his nephew, Jason Cartwright.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Smith Rader (formerly Cartwright); his niece, Jessica Cartwright Lindner; his nephews, Jarrod Cartwright and Adam Blankenship; and several grandnieces and nephews.
