Ronald Curlis (Vincent Funeral Home)

Ronald Curlis, 82, of Tappahannock, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with sepsis.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Ron was the son of Dorothy Curlis and his biological father, Nelson Jones. After his mother remarried, he took the last name of his stepfather, Robert Curlis, whom he highly respected and loved as a father. Ron spent most of his life in West Milford and Wantage, New Jersey before moving to Virginia later in life.

He was a dedicated and extremely hard worker, spending many years in a machine shop. Ron was a talented handyman who loved working with his hands. He enjoyed landscaping, gardening, building, woodworking, fixing cars, and tinkering with remote control cars and airplanes. He also loved watching football (especially his Dallas Cowboys) and listening to music.

Above all, Ron was a devoted family man who made providing for his family his top priority. He had a great sense of humor, a warm smile, and a generous spirit — always willing to give the shirt off his back and open his doors to anyone in need.

He is survived by his loving wife Ruthann Curlis; his children, Laura McInerney (Bill), Robert Curlis (Elisa), and Lisa Haggerty (Alan); his 7 surviving grandchildren, Jonathon Curlis (Cecilia), Brandon Curlis (Amy), Ashley Curlis (Shane), Trevor McInerney, Jaylin McInerney (Juan), Brian Haggerty, and Conor Haggerty (preceded in death by his grandson Robert Curlis Jr); his 11 surviving great-grandchildren (preceded in death by his great-granddaughter Madilynn “Maddie” Curlis); and many other loving family members and friends.

Ron will be remembered as a hardworking, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived life fully and took great pride in caring for his family.

A funeral service will be held 12Noon Friday, July 17, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 4PM-8PM, at the funeral home. Interment to follow services in the Sunny Slope Cemetery, West Point, VA.
