Patricia “Pit Pat” Dunthorn passed away peacefully at her home on July 6, 2026, just shy of her 101st birthday. Born on July 16, 1925, in Nutley, New Jersey, Pit Pat lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure.
Pat was a proud graduate of Endicott College and an accomplished real estate agent. As a woman of deep faith, she was a member of Galilee Church. Pat was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, and infectious smile. Affectionately dubbed the “Mayor of 69th Street,” her vibrant personality and blue eyes endeared her to everyone she met. Her home was a haven of warmth and laughter, where memories were made and stories were shared.
Simple pleasures defined her days. She delighted in the company of children and canine companions throughout her life. Pat’s love for the beach was matched only by her passion for reading. Books were her constant friends, and she enjoyed sharing her favorite reads with those around her.
Family was the cornerstone of her life. She took immense pride in caring for her grandchildren, being a strong presence in their lives. As a mother to many, Pit Pat’s love extended beyond her immediate family, embracing friends and loved ones who sought her wisdom and warmth. She had an uncanny ability to make people feel welcome, listened to, and loved.
Pat is reunited with her late husband, Byron Dunthorn, and her sons Bruce and Peter Dunthorn, whom she dearly missed. Pat is survived by her daughter Sally English, her son Patrick Dunthorn (Denise), her grandchildren Leah Malbon (Stefan), Anna English (Zac), Collin Dunthorn, and Taylor Dunthorn, as well as treasured great-grandsons, Noah Malbon and Wes Hand.
As we celebrate her incredible century of life, we find comfort in knowing that Pit Pat’s light continues to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory lives on in the hearts of her friends and family.
Her family invites you to join them for a memorial service at Galilee Episcopal Church on Tuesday July 21, 2026 at 3:00pm. A reception will follow at the Princess Anne Country Club. Memorial donations may be made to Galilee Episcopal Church or the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center.
