Ronald “Ronnie” Brian Freedman, a cherished son of Norfolk, Virginia, was born on August 14, 1939, and peacefully passed away on July 6, 2026, at the age of 86. Surrounded by his loving family at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Ronnie departed this world due to natural causes.
Ronnie’s life began and ended in Norfolk, where he cultivated a deep bond with his community and family. After honorably serving in the United States Army, Ronnie dedicated his career to government service through his work in Civil Service, where his contributions were valued and respected by colleagues and peers alike.
A man of vibrant spirit and boundless energy, Ronnie never stayed still for long. Whether he was cheering on his favorite football team or enjoying a day at the horse races with his beloved Sandy, Ronnie lived life to the fullest. His passion for joy and movement was matched only by his deep faith, as evidenced by his involvement with the Beth Messiah Synagogue in Norfolk.
He is now reunited in eternal peace with the love of his life, his beloved wife, Sandy Freedman; his brother, Marty Freedman (Judy); and his parents, Ada and Morton Freedman, all of blessed memory. Through their memories, Ronnie’s legacy will continue to live on.
Ronnie leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted sister, Sandy; sister-in-law, Judy as well as nephews Jason, Aaron (Pennie) and Jim; nieces, Rachael (Brett) and Sue (Dale). He is also survived by many dear friends who will forever cherish his memory and the joy he brought into their lives.
Ronnie loved his wife unconditionally, and there is comfort in knowing that they are now together, reunited in heaven. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those left behind.
