Josephine Sims Reyes, 72, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026 in Virginia Beach Virginia, surrounded by the memories of her life in the home where she raised her children. Josephine was born January 12, 1954 to Josefina De Leon and Fernando Sims in Las Piñas, Philippines and was the older of two.
Josephine met Generoso in grade school and would go on to marry him in 1977. While in the Philippines, Josephine graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1974 from Lacson College with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, majoring in Accounting. After Generoso joined the US Navy in 1977, they emigrated to the United States in 1980. Josephine became a naturalized citizen in 1985.
Josephine enjoyed traveling with Generoso around the country, including taking a cross-country trip with Generoso’s parents and his beloved 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. They moved around the US from Coronado, California; to Kings Bay, Georgia; and finally settling in Virginia Beach, Virginia, to give their first-born son a stable environment in which to grow up. Josephine would have her second child, Heidi, and put her work on hold to focus on raising their children as she chose love and life over her career.
Only after seeing her children grow up, she continued to travel with Generoso during his retirement, visiting destinations such as Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Washington State, while creating cherished memories along the way.
Josephine has returned home to the Lord and reunited with her husband, Generoso, in Heaven. Those left to remember her are her mother: Josefina; brother: Shane; half-sister: Dorothy; children: Eugene and Heidi; and grandson Ryker.
Josephine will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Generoso, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and offer condolences here.
