On Sunday, March 1, 2026, God, in His infinite wisdom, called Darryl Samuel Turner, affectionately known as “Small Fry,” from labor to eternal rest. At the age of 60, he peacefully departed this life in Miami, Florida. Born on August 3, 1965, in Norfolk, Virginia, Darryl was the beloved son of Diana Turner and the late Samuel Brown.
Darryl received his education through the Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Granby High School before earning his Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He built a successful career in sales, where his genuine love for people and exceptional ability to connect with others made him a respected professional. He faithfully served for more than ten years with Anthem Flags and also worked for Home Depot and Custom Home Improvements in Virginia Beach. His entrepreneurial spirit inspired him to pursue the dream of establishing his own business, a goal he worked toward with determination and optimism.
Outside of his career, Darryl embraced life with enthusiasm and creativity. He was a devoted NASCAR fan and especially admired the legendary Dale Earnhardt. He enjoyed attending race shows, watching races on television, drawing, detailing automobiles, and applying vinyl graphics. Always well dressed, Darryl took great pride in his appearance and was known for his sharp suits and impeccable sense of style. His warm smile, engaging personality, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Darryl’s faith remained an important part of his life. He was raised at Bolling Brook Baptist Church, where he developed a love for worship and Christian fellowship. Later, while spending time with his aunt in Cocoa, Florida, he attended Glory of God Anglican Church, continuing his walk of faith.
Darryl was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Brown; his grandmother, Idell Brown; his aunt, Barbara Griffin; and his beloved nephews, Douglas Holmes and Andrew Holmes.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving son, Brandon Turner of Newton, New Jersey; his devoted mother, Diana Turner of Norfolk, Virginia; three brothers, Michael Turner of Hawaii, Frederick Turner of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Steven Turner of Norfolk, Virginia; one sister, Joycelyn Harris of Norfolk, Virginia; his nephew, Alvin Harris; his nieces, Kim Harris, Michelle Turner, and Angelica Turner; his cherished aunt, Thelma Holmes (Charlie) of Newark, New Jersey; an uncle, Rev. Addison Brown; along with a host of cousins, relatives, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and love.
A memorial service to celebrate Darryl’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Southside Chapel, located at 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA.
Friends and family are invited to share memories and offer condolences here.
Although our hearts are saddened by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Darryl’s legacy of love, perseverance, faith, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
