Charlotte Gregg, 83, of Virginia Beach

Charlotte Sue Gregg (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

Charlotte Gregg, 83, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on October 29, 1942, in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Charles Gregg and Gertrude Gregg.

Charlotte’s life was defined by devotion to others. Above all else, she was a mother who poured every ounce of herself into raising her three children. She was the kind of mother who quietly took the burned piece of toast or ate her meal cold so her children could have the very best. Her love was found in countless small acts of sacrifice, kindness, and care that filled her home and shaped the lives of those she loved.

Her children fondly remember coming home from school to the comforting aroma of fresh baked bread. Charlotte had a charming way of proofing her dough near the household radiator, turning simple ingredients into warm memories that would last a lifetime. A gifted seamstress, she lovingly sewed clothing for her children and took great pride in her handiwork. One cherished memory was the beautiful Betsy Ross costume she created for her daughter Rene’s school parade, making her look every bit the patriotic princess.

Charlotte never missed an opportunity to support her children. Her daughters, Rene and Laura, participated in color guard, and she was faithfully present for every performance. She served as assistant coach for their softball teams and enthusiastically cheered from the sidelines. Her son Charles, known as Chuck, played baseball, and Charlotte made sure he always stepped onto the field looking sharp in a freshly scrubbed uniform. The same care she gave her home, she gave to her children, keeping both immaculate and filled with love.

After high school, Charlotte dedicated herself to raising her family before later working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, caring for patients living with Alzheimer’s disease. She approached her work with deep compassion and a tender heart. She became attached to those in her care and often grieved alongside their families when they passed away.

Family vacations took the Gregg family to the mountains of Pennsylvania, the shores of Lake Erie, and Conneaut Lake, creating treasured memories that would be shared for decades. Even as her children became adults, Charlotte never stopped caring for them. She crocheted a beautiful bedspread for Rene in her college colors and delighted in making baby blankets whenever she learned a new baby was on the way. Thoughtfulness was simply part of who she was.

Faith was the foundation of Charlotte’s life. She held an unwavering belief in God and found great strength, comfort, and purpose through her church and fellowship with fellow believers. Her faith shaped the compassion she showed to others, the selflessness with which she cared for her family, and the gentle spirit that became her hallmark. Whether offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or a heartfelt prayer, Charlotte lived out her faith with quiet grace and steadfast devotion.

Charlotte also enjoyed lively Friday and Saturday night games of canasta with friends and neighbors, fueled by endless cups of coffee and laughter that often stretched into the early morning hours. She loved animals throughout her life, but none held a more special place in her heart than her beloved tuxedo cat, Silkie.

In her later years, Charlotte became known for her sweet disposition, gentle humor, and infectious giggle. She genuinely enjoyed the company of others and brought warmth wherever she went. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family will be remembered by all who knew her.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gertrude Gregg, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rene (Jake) Jacocks, Laura (Craig) Miller; Charles “Chuck” (Caron) Lawrence; her sister Janet (Ed) Salak of Pennsylvania; her grandchildren Michael (Larissa) Ball, Brandon Lawrence, Dylan Lacerna, Cameron (Faith) Miller, Ella Miller, and Collin Miller; her dear sister Janet Gregg Salak; along with many extended family members and friends who were blessed by her love and friendship.

Charlotte’s legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the lives she touched, and the countless acts of kindness she performed throughout her life. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
