David Warren Funk, 79, of York County, VA, peacefully departed this life on June 17th 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
David was born August 6, 1946 in Harrisburg, PA, the son of William Kirby Funk and Evelyn Irene Funk (Stoyer).
David graduated from Susquehanna High School in 1964 and joined the United States Air Force in 1973. He served until honorably discharged in 1990. David earned various recognitions in this time, including but not limited to the following: the Meritorious service medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Excellence Award, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
David married Karen [Negley] Funk on May 31st, 1969 in their hometown of Harrisburg, PA. They recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. After spending many years apart on and off due to his military service, they made up for lost time in their retirement. So much time that when testing for their hearing aids, they had the exact same results, proving to their family that they actually had not been yelling at each other all these years. They had, in fact, been speaking at their matching heightened volume.
Those who knew Dave knew he loved a good fishing trip, a great golf course, and a decent beer. He was skilled at the art of the clam bake and had a knack for pointing out specific bird species in his impeccably mowed yard. He enjoyed reminiscing with stories about his travels, both in and out of the service. We enjoyed listening to them.
Remaining to cherish David’s memory are the great love of his life Karen; a newfound sister he was blessed to connect with, Debra Ahlfeld; his devoted children JoAnne (Jamie) and Bradley (Allison); 3 beloved grandchildren who were privileged to call him their “Poppop,” Madison, James, and Isaac; as well as his dear niece Susan Negley.
A memorial service will be held June 28th, 2026 at 1:30 pm at Amory’s Funeral Home with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peninsula ASPCA to honor David’s love of animals, or a charity of your preference.
