David Linwood Paul, II, a man of warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion, passed away on June 8, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 54. Born on June 6, 1972, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, David’s life was a tapestry of cherished experiences, deep connections, and unyielding love.
From an early age, David brought joy to all who knew him. His infectious laughter and knack for storytelling made him the life of any gathering. Those who were fortunate enough to know him found comfort in his gentle spirit and giving nature. His cousin, Tommie Smith Jr., was his partner in childhood adventures, scaling every obstacle they encountered with the imagination of superheroes.
David pursued his education at Rolling Meadows High School in Illinois, and later attended Drake University, where he played football and earned the affectionate nickname “Big Dave.” Though he spent only a couple of years at Drake, the friendships he formed there lasted a lifetime.
David’s career path showcased his resilience and adaptability. A master plumber by trade, he demonstrated dedication and skill until the economic downturn in 2008 led him to reinvent himself as a tow truck driver. Throughout life’s challenges, his determination never wavered, and he embraced each transition with grace.
Music was one of David’s greatest passions. Whether playing guitar and piano or singing with abandon, he filled his home with melodies that matched the joy in his heart. He found equal enjoyment on the softball field, displaying the same enthusiasm and camaraderie that defined his approach to life.
A devoted fan of the Raiders, Dodgers, and Cubs, David loved cheering for his teams. These moments, shared with family and friends, were among his most treasured.
David’s greatest source of pride and happiness was his family. Marrying Kendria Elizabeth 21 years ago, after eight years of courtship, he dedicated himself to creating a loving and nurturing home. As a husband and father, he relished in every moment with his children, David Linwood Paul III and Isabel Paul. His legacy is carried forward by them, along with his siblings Daniel Noebel, Alexia Noebel, Sarah Doyle, and Mark Doyle; his niece and nephews, Elias, Eelan, Everest, Kelsey, and Aidan; and his mother & father-in-law Paula Neis and Kenneth Edward Neis .
Preceded in death by his parents, David Linwood Paul I and Martha Ellen Noebel, David leaves behind a myriad of family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. His memory endures in countless acts of kindness, laughter-filled gatherings, and the love he so generously shared.
