Barbara Ann DiFranco, born on July 9, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the age of 81.
Barbara was a woman of grace and strength, whose love for her family was the guiding force of her life. In her younger years, she pursued a passion for ballet and was a talented ballerina. She had the opportunity to join the prestigious New York City Ballet but chose instead to dedicate herself to raising her family, a decision that speaks volumes about her character and values.
Her professional journey led included working as a secretary on the 82nd floor of the Empire State Building. It was there she shared a memorable encounter with Charlton Heston at a party, fondly recalling him as a very good conversationalist.
Barbara’s greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved husband, Victor DiFranco, and their cherished children and grandchildren. Her unwavering devotion to her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Anna Bauer Shain. Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Victor DiFranco; her daughter Anne DiFranco and granddaughter Ella Geissler of Middletown, CT; her son Victor DiFranco, his wife Connie, and granddaughters Sierra and Jagger DiFranco of Meriden, CT; her daughter Laura Crawford, her husband Stephen, and grandchildren Joseph, Katherine, and Shane Crawford. She is also survived by her sister Susan and her husband Jon Carr, along with their grandchildren Zach and Sam Carr.
Barbara Ann DiFranco will be remembered as a strong and loving woman whose life was a testament to the power of family and love. Her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
