Charles Howard Griffin, 67, of Norfolk

Charles Howard Griffin (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

Charles H. Griffin, born on January 9, 1959, in Norfolk, Virginia, has checked out of this mortal coil as of May 21, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 67.

Known for his acerbic wit and a dedication to relaxation, Charles spent his days turning wood into wonderful things through his career as a carpenter. When not wielding a hammer, he was masterfully lounging in the comfort of his own home, a true stay-at-home aficionado.

Armed with a pack of Marlboro Reds and a cold Pepsi, Charles was a champion of movie marathons that would make binge-watchers today tremble. His sarcasm was as sharp as his carpentry skills, and it brought both annoyance and amusement to his loved ones.

He is preceded into the great beyond by his beloved wife Claudia Phoenix, his son Adam Kitchkommie, and loving dog Simba. Charles leaves behind a family that knew him well enough to appreciate, and hopefully inherit, his humor: his daughter, Sarah Kitchkommie, and his granddaughter, Jasmine Kitchkommie. Although Charles didn’t venture much beyond the couch in his later days, his stories and quips kept everyone on their toes.

While there might not be any grand public accolades, those who knew him will remember a man who mastered the art of comfortable living and snappy comebacks. So, here’s to Charles, a carpenter of homes, habitual offenses, humor, a master relaxer, and a hard-to-forget figure.
