VIRGINIA BEACH — Karen Ripski Hemmer, born on April 28, 1958, in Portsmouth, VA, passed away peacefully at her residence in Virginia Beach, VA, on April 18, 2026.

Karen was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family and home. Her love for baking was well-known among those who had the pleasure of tasting her creations. A simple woman at heart, she found great joy in helping children with disabilities, offering her time and compassion to those in need.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, John Carl Ripski and Shirley Ruth Sitterson. Karen is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Dwight E. Sparks, and her daughter, Jennifer Raymond (Leo) of Oakland, ME. She leaves behind four adored grandchildren: Christian, Joshua, Bryson, and Isabelle. Karen is also survived by her siblings, Terry Ripski (Terri) of Delaware, Jackie Moulton (Vincent) of Chesapeake, VA, and Beth-Ann Lines (Bo) of Virginia Beach, VA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

A memorial service to celebrate Karen’s life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, located at 5033 Rouse Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
