Dolores Y. Truesdale, age 74, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, in Hampton, Virginia. Born on January 20, 1952, in Newark, New Jersey, she was a beloved member of her community and cherished by her family and friends.
A dedicated public servant, Dolores worked for many years with the New Jersey State Social Services, where she devoted her time and energy to helping those in need. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University, a testament to her commitment to education and personal growth.
Dolores was a woman of varied interests who found joy in collecting porcelain dolls, solving crossword and sudoku puzzles, and coloring pictures. Her creativity and love for these hobbies inspired those around her, bringing color and light into the lives of many.
A faithful member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, Dolores was guided by her strong faith throughout her life. Her church community was an integral part of her journey, providing her with fellowship and spiritual nourishment.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, George and Thelma Stevenson; her sister, Denise Stevenson; and her son, Rakiem Stevenson.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her son, Alan Stevenson; her siblings, George Stevenson Jr., Deborah Holloway, Beverly Johnson, Patricia Cook, Kevin Stevenson, Wayne Stevenson, Cheryl Stevenson, Kenny Stevenson, and Duane Stevenson. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Codeam Stevenson, Michelle Jackson, Jamika Stevenson, Saqoya Wilkerson, Rakiem Stevenson, Tarae Stevenson, Azaria Stevenson, and Daiquan Stevenson, as well as her six great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons; and a host of loved ones and friends.
Dolores Y. Truesdale will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
