James K. Davis, Jr., 80, of Barhamsville, Virginia, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Jim lived a full and active life. He worked for 39 years with Chesapeake Corporation, later retiring from Smurfit Stone in West Point. Known for his strong work ethic, he also enjoyed playing on the company softball team, bowling with his wife Nancy in several leagues, and spending many years deer hunting with his son and brother. He especially loved fishing in the family ponds. Following in the footsteps of his father, farming was a passion. He grew many fields of cantaloupes, watermelons, and pumpkins in his life.
After graduating from New Kent High School, Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force. He and Nancy married in 1965 and began their life together in, Laurium, Michigan, Nancy’s hometown, while Jim was stationed at Calumet Air Force Station. Shortly after, they moved to Barhamsville, where they raised their family. Both were active members of Tabernacle United Methodist Church for many years before later attending Christ Community Church in Toano.
In retirement, Jim was known for helping anyone who needed anything—something that truly defined him. He carried that spirit even further by becoming a founding member and longtime volunteer of Proclaiming Grace Outreach, the nonprofit created in memory of his granddaughter, Jenna Grace King. Jim lived out his faith in all that he did.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy; his children, Melanie King (Billy) and Scott Davis (Debbie); four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. The family would also like to express deep appreciation for the caregivers who provided exceptional care and treated Jim like a king.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving parents, James “Kilby” and Gladys Allen Davis, and by his granddaughter, Jenna Grace King.
As an alternative to flowers, donations may be made to Proclaiming Grace Outreach, P.O. Box 224, Barhamsville, VA 23011 or to your local Wounded Warrior Project.
