With faith in God’s promise of eternal life, we announce that Charles E Crowe, 76, of Providence Forge, VA, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
“I fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” -2 Timothy 4:7
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Florence Crowe.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Sandy, who remained by his side through every joy and hardship. Charles is also survived by his brother, Archie C. Crowe (Paula) along with his four step-sons, David Hurst, (Lizette), Christopher Hurst, Joe Hurst (Kim) and Jonathan Dahl (Sangita) who he loved as if they were his own. He also had 6 Grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters with one more on the way.
He was a simple sweet country man who was happiest when surrounded by the people he cherished and that included his many friends from high school and his days of playing baseball. He was known in his late teens as a terrific pitcher with a mean hard-throwing right hand. He never lost his passion for baseball and watched his favorite team, The Yankees whenever he could.
His love of the water led him to buy a 38ft Chris Craft boat and he fished for over 25 years in the Chesapeake Bay, bringing home his catch and frying them up for the waiting crowd at Horn Harbor Marina in Mathews County. After selling the boat, he retired to a houseboat, the “Crowes Nest”, but did not leave the marina and his Marina Family of Friends. He loved playing pool in the clubhouse and telling jokes. And if the music was country, he would dance with his wife, Sandy, as that is how they met – On the dance floor in 1981.
He loved his vegetable garden as a place of patience, purpose and quiet joy. He took pride in tending it and shared its harvest generously, reflecting his steady, caring nature and love for life’s simple pleasures. His family and friends stood with him through victories, challenges, and the final months of his illness.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 27, 2026 at Vincent Funeral Home (9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA) from 12:00pm – 1:30pm with services following. The procession to the Washington Memorial Park cemetery, in Sandston, Virginia will proceed after the service. Please come to celebrate his life the way he lived – casual and uncomplicated.
