Thomas Carey “TC” Lawson, Jr., departed this life March 22, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, T. Carey and Bertie Lawson, a son, Tracy C. Lawson and a sister, Miriam Charnock.
TC is survived by his wife of 66 years, Earlene Carlton Lawson; sons, Thomas C. Lawson, III (Marjorie) and Todd C. Lawson (Vangy); eight grandchildren, Thomas IV (Kelsey), Zachariah, Jeremiah, Rachel, Josiah (Ray), Noah, Trae, Zoe; a great-granddaughter, Shiloh; siblings, Josh Lawson, Shirley French, Julia Gresham and Thelma Downey.
TC was born June 15, 1933, on a farm at Cologne, VA in King & Queen County. He attended Pleasant Hill High School and worked on the farm before and after school. After graduating he attended R.P.I., now VCU. He served four years active duty in the United States Coast Guard, two years in San Juan Puerto Rico and two years in Portsmouth, VA. TC served as a blastemate 2nd Class. Upon returning, he worked for Brooks Pontiac and B & W Ford. In 1961, he formed Lawson Equipment Inc as an owner and manager, selling International Tractor Farm Equipment Trucks and Cub Lawn & Garden.
He joined the West Point Volunteer Fire Department in 1960 and remained a member until his death. TC spent countless hours serving his community. His greatest accomplishment was helping the department grow into what it is today. TC was one of the original EMTs in 1972. He was a member of West Point Masonic Lodge #238 where he served as the Worshipful Master in 1971 and 1972. TC served as the District Deputy Grand Master of the 11th Masonic District from 2001-2002.
A funeral service will be held on 2 p.m. Friday, March 27th at West Point United Methodist Church,1020 Main Street, West Point, VA 23181. Interment will follow in Sunny Slope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, VA 23181 with a masonic service at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
