Gary Michael Aguiar, 77, of Quinton, Virginia passed away peacefully at his home on March 18, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvaro and Mildred Aguiar; his brother, Wayne; and granddaughter, Stephanie.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara; children, James, Teresa (Nathan), Kay (Jesse), and Karen (Joe). He is also survived by his grandchildren Chris, Amber, Tyler, Eric, Bobbie, Robert, Joseph, Jacob, Jonathan, and great grandchildren Grant, Mason, Lawsen, Liam, Averlee and Luna. His brother Richard, of Connecticut, also survives him.
Gary honorably served in the Air Force from 1968-1975 and proudly served his country during the Viet Nam war. After his military service, he continued serving his country as an air traffic controller at Byrd Field later named Richmond International Airport from 1977 until his retirement in 2005. He was a collector of many things from stamps, hot wheel cars and baseball memorabilia to more unique hobbies such as rocketry, raising mealworms and earthworms.
Gary’s family would like to thank VCU Massey Cancer Center for their care and support during these past 5 1/2 years, as well as his final care provided by BAYADA Hospice. His family would also like to thank his church Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church for their prayers as well as his priest, Reverend Scott Duarte for his spiritual support.

Our lives are forever changed by his passing, and this world has lost a great person, but our loss is heaven’s gain.
