Barbara Jenkins Barbour, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on October 12, 2025, at the age of 91, while in hospice care following a fall.
Barabra was a devoted wife and mother who resided in West Point, Virginia, most of her adult life. She had a love of, and a talent for the arts and education. As a matter of fact, she met her future husband, Charles Barbour, when she was directing a play in which he played “the villain”. She sang in the community choir “The Enthusiastix” the church choir, and she taught Sunday school for a number of years.
She created beautiful works of art in watercolor and scratch board. She worked as a substitute teacher and served on the West Point School Board, serving as chairman for many years. She was a little lady, standing just under five feet, but she made a big impact on all she met and in all she did.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Phillip Mercer Jenkins, Jr.; four siblings, Rith Ann Underwood, David B. Jenkins, Marcia “Marty” Mamunes, and Stuart P. Jenkins; and her granddaughter, JoAnna Elizabeth Barbour.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Charles S. Barbour, of Williamsburg; two children, James E. Barbour (Jacqueline) of West Point, and Martie B. Pauze (Rick) of Gloucester; two granddaughters, Nicole B. Pauze and Lisa M. Pauze, of Chico, California; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Arts Alive or the West Point Historical Society.
